Lusty.
Whilst we pick up the pieces and attempt to find the time to update our illustrious website as regularly as we used to, here is Anna Calvi's sensuous, sumptuous, Almodóvarian new video for the year's 29th best song, "Suzanne and I".

Promising...
If you told us David Lynch directed this, we would believe you (he didn't). Everything about this is right. It gets sumptuous, romantic, frightening, dark, noir-ish mystery right in a way that MUCH lesser artists like Phoney Natalia Kills could only DREAM of, and it does it on a tiny budget. What we'd be interested to see, would be what Calvi could do with more money and time. Something really epic and breathtaking. Let's hope she gets the opportunity at some point.

We have been remiss...
We didn't mean to forget to post this, but we did. Here is Anna Calvi singing her single "Jezebel", an old Frankie Laine/Edith Piaf cover. It's not on the album, cuz the album is all [stunning] original work. But it's still mighty fine.
Y'know. Every year several new female artists are hailed as the second coming, and we buy into it, usually deciding by the end of the year that actually, they're dodgy, shoddy and boring. But we have a feeling Anna Calvi is different. This is a woman with serious chops (songwriting, guitar playing, singing) whose melodramatic and sumptuous femme fatale of a debut album is one of the best first works we've heard in a long time. Anna seems to hark back to the 90s when a slew of prodigiously talented female singer/composers made their name with fresh and totally unique music.
We love her, we think she's ace. We hope you enjoy the heady, sexy tango that is "Jezebel", too.

We don't know much about this artist, but we like her based on her album artwork, a.k.a. A Shallow Post...

- Anna Calvi
- On the BBC Sound of 2011 list
- DESPITE being rather more odd than most of the people who usually appear on that thing.
- Her current single is "Jezebel", an Edith Piaf cover...
- It's nice and all, but we can't really make a judgement until we hear her original material.
- Her original material may be out there on the internet somewhere but we're too busy to seek it out so we'll wait til it makes itself blatantly obvious to us
- Until then: pretty artwork!
