Stuck In Our Head: "You've Got The Love" - Florence and the Machine

We don't like Florence and the Machine. We don't have much basis to this dislike. She just comes across as a bit naff, a bit of a record label ploy to reach the 'quirky', 'alternative' demographic they were chasing a few years earlier with that Sandi Toksvig bimbo who had various colours in her hair - I know, more then one colour! Daring! Clearly her PR team hadn't been to Coventry city centre on a Saturday afternoon.

We do like her cover of the dance CLASSIC "You Got The Love" by the Source, featuring Candi Staton. The original was and is an inspiring, breath-taking declaration of devotion and love, contributing in partnership with hard drugs to many a dancer's euphoria since 1991. It also served as the soundtrack to the spine-tingling finale to Sex and the City - sorry, was that too gay?

Anyway, the cover quite drastically departs from the original, and channels the warmth and beauty of the song into a charming, more innocent tune. It's pleasant, it's nice. And for once, that doesn't seem to be a bad thing.
