'DYSTOPIAN'
We haven't been paying too much attention to Röyksopp cuz their current album's apparently instrumental, and as fab as that can be, our interest in the Scandinavian duo's work is vastly elevated when they have female guest vocalists like Robyn and Lykke Li and Ms. Fever of Rays. We're lame like that. This, then, is their new video, and even if it doesn't feature female vocalists, it does features 3 pretty ladies in a post-apocalyptic landscape which is fairly S&N-friendly, so there you go.

None of them kicks go boom, none of them basslines fill the room...
This is the third, Röyksopp featuring 'buzz track' from Robyn's new album (the previous two being "Fembot" and "Dancehall Queen") and it's a lot noisier/less melodic than the stuff we're used to from Ms. Konichiwa. But whatever, it has the acest lyrics ever, and it's sure as hell catchy. And you know what? It sounds totally necessary for Robyn. Like, she needed to do something darker and rawer, like this, or she'd be stuck in a rut doing overly melodic alternative bubblegum pop forever. It's pretty spesh.

A 'nuddy-wuddy'-themed Röyksopp video...
To be honest, we didn't really bother watching this all the way through, but from what we can see, it's one of those self-consciously outré independent-artist music videos that feature 3 whole minutes of something that's only really interesting/funny for about 20 seconds before you lose the will to live. Big fail, Röyksopp and Karin 'The Knife' Dreijer 'Fever Ray' Andersson. This whole Röyksopp campaign has basically been a big old mess, which is a shame because it's based around a rather fantastic and memorable album full of some epic and unusual pop tunes. We won't be losing any sleep over it though, as we have more important things to worry about (i.e. where will the Saturdays single chart?).

A robot, two business men and a pop star walk into a bar...
Jesus Christ we have to stop doing these awful headlines. Anygaiz, this is a snapshot from the Robyn and Röyksopp video (still ONE of the best songs of the year, so far) and it looks rather fabby, does it not?

Some more artworks...
It's a slow day in the world of music and we're working our way up to tackling the ridiculosity that was Lady GaGa's appearance on Jonathan Ross (it was a hot mess, really)... so here for your delectation are some new single artworks.
First we have the single artwork for "Vulture" by Patrick Wolf. Here it is below:
We don't know what to say about his awful hair but other than that it's quite nice. And at least it doesn't have his naked bottom or any leather straps in it, does it?
Next we finally have the single artwork for "The Girl and the Robot" by Röyksopp featuring Robyn. It won't change your life but it'll do, no?
Very Dali-esque, non? That's probably the point, isn't it.

EFF WHY EYE
We were a little bit worried (as we always are) that there might not be any good new music in the coming year, but so far Antony and the Johnsons, India.Arie, Alela Diane, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bat For Lashes, Vienna Teng and now Röyksopp have all managed to settle our fears, calm our nerves and reassure us that music is not dead yet.

Stuck In Our Head: "The Girl and the Robot" - Röyksopp with Robyn
It's the next Röyksopp single. It features Robyn. It is utterly fantastic. The way the chord sequence doesn't quite unfurl the way you expect it to is a PERFECT touch and completely highlights the fact that Robyn sounds completely loopy and like she's starring in a strange robotsex version of Fatal Attraction. There is also an incredible spooky string bit at the end.
We realise we are the last blog in the world to write about this but in the words of teenageres everywhere 'w/e'. (That's 'whatever' not 'weekend'.)
