Poor Katy Perry... she's managed to follow up 2 enormous worldwide smash hit singles with a bit of a flop. Not that we don't like "Thinking of You" (it's quite good), just that it's failed to go top 20 in many of the major music markets around the world.

This isn't the end of the world for Fleet Foxes, but it is if you're supposedly one of the biggest new pop acts on the planet.

Anyway... we're sure this is all part of the plan. Even if it's not, it was fairly inevitable seeing as Ms. Perry's album is hardly chockablock full of hits and after "Hot N Cold" we weren't really sure where she was gonna go. We can sort of see her having a similar career pattern to Cyndi Lauper. You know. A few massive hits per album for her first two albums, before sliding into chart floppage, whilst still remaining a big icon of pop music.

Then again, the cynical amongst you might say her career will probably be more along the lines of Kim Carnes. Kim who? Exactamundo.

The fact that Ms. Perry's latest single has gone (relatively) flop in many countries is rather interesting considering Britney's most recent effort, "Circus", peaked at 13 in the UK. Is the reigning era of pop princesses over? Well... clearly not. Because there's still Lady GaGa storming up every chart imaginable. And Rihanna, who seems to excrete number 1s in her sleep (that sounded less wrong in our head).

We're going to leave it at that, readers.
