Very Odd

Above is the debut official single by apparent 'mixtape fave' and rapper extraordinaire (we'll be the judge of that) Wale. Apparently it sorta rhymes with the way they pronounce paté in Heathers.

The reason why we're mentioning this listenable but forgettable slice of rap/pop/hip hop is because it features none other than S&N fave, Lady GaGa! I know! How exciting! In her first guest vocalist spot (who is she, Ashanti?)!

The curious thing, though, apart from the very fact that Lady GaGa is doing something other than her own hallowed pop, is the fact that she seems to be impersonating M.I.A. on this! No! We know! How strange?!

What's even odder is that she sort of (we say 'sort of') pulls it off!

We're not quite sure what sort of shit 'Wale' and his people are trying to pull... are they jumping on the Slumdog bandwagon (please, no)? Are they trying to cash in on GaGa Fever? If so... why haven't they got her singing something that suits her, not interpreting another distinctive artist's unique vocal delivery?

We guess we'll never know.

Speaking of Slumdog bandwagon-jumping. Is it just us or is this a brand new craze? We mean the craze of having a Best Picture Oscar Winner influence popular music because artists want to cash in? We don't remember the Pussycat Dolls doing a No Country For Old Men-themed song... or Snoop Dogg hitting up dat The Departed shit... anyway kudos to Slumdog for being so influential, even if we have to watch everyone try to get their two pennies worth and milk it dry.
