And here it is, what we've been waiting for. "Celebration" leaked while we were lying underneath Parisian skies, and we've been gorging on it's delights ever since. It may seem to the reader on this blog that Madonna can do no wrong, but believe us she can, it's just... we tend to like whatever she puts out! Although, you can guarantee "One More Chance" will find no place on Shiny & New.
So the song. Extremely fitting for it's purpose. This is not the lead single for an album campaign, it is essentially a bonus track for a greatest hits compilation, so we are lucky we are even getting a video. You can guarantee Madge will do no promo otherwise. This is not an attempt to justify the song's lesser qualities however; yes it is no "4 Minutes", it is certainly no "Hung Up" but the song still hits you with it's likeable immediacy and thrilling energy and enthusiasm. This really is a powerful dance track, and will doubtless be a hit in clubs across the country, and not just gay ones - that is if the DJ bothers to look past the ever decreasing-in-coolness associations with the name "Madonna". The spoken bit could have been done awfully, but isn't, and some parts are mildly cringe but overall it serves it's purpose and is well done. We tend to float more toward the Benny Benassi remix rather then the album track of late, which may be a blessing in disguise as tis the version used in the video, and seems to emphasise the anthemic elements of the song more heavily. The song actually sounds like a celebration.
The artwork leaves less to be desired. While crafted by the same person responsible for the album artwork (which in our opinion is epic), it has no shared theme, features Madonna desperately trying to achieve her former coolness by "smoking", and is generally messy, cringe and looks suited to a re-release of "Die Another Day". YOU WILL NOT FIND THE ARTWORK ON THIS BLOG.
We look forward to following it's chart performance in the UK, and hearing the second track from the greatest hits, "Revolver"...
