How our trip went...

As we've already told you, we went to see Ke$ha at her UK industry showcase thingy and here is how it went: 6/10. To be honest with you, we weren't entirely sure we knew who Ke$ha was until a couple of weeks ago. Having covered her single a while back but completely forgotten about it we regarded her with caution, just in case we declared her 'amazing' and she turned out to be awful. Or in case we labelled her 'awful' when in fact she turned out to be amazing.

Because, or in spite of, the fact that we knew not what to expect from this mini gig, we were pleasantly surprised. We expected 1 memorable song (the single: "TiK ToK") and the rest a load of filler, but we were, like we said, pleasantly surprised. We were particularly impressed with a track called "Party at a Rich Kid's House" which we are hoping is the next single.

Ke$ha herself was peppy, energetic and fairly likeable. Although there seemed to be a lot more backing track than actual live vocals going on. In terms of her style of music, she came off as a sort of Katy Perry meets Avril Lavigne via Peaches inhabiting the ghost of Daphne and Celeste. Yes, something like that. As far as we can remember Ke$ha played:
  1. "Backstabber"
  2. "Party at a Rich Kid's House"
  3. "Dinosaur"
  4. "Blah Blah" (??)
  5. "TiK Tok"
Not entirely sure if that's correct, but who cares (answer: no one)?

We don't go to these 'industry' things on a regular basis (i.e. it was our first), and as such have nothing to compare it to but there was a general air of wankiness about. There was a man from her record label who compared her to Madonna (hmmm) and a lot of people who looked very pleased with themselves, but overall we can't complain about the experience. It was free, and there was a free drink involved.

As for Ke$ha and what to expect from her, you'll have to watch this space. Right now: as always: we haven't a clue.
