Something good out now...
Owen Pallett, award-winning Canadian singer-violinist, sometime-member of Arcade Fire and Artist Formerly Known As Final Fantasy, has released an album called Heartland. It is romantic, inventive and richly layered. As with all his albums it tells a story (far be it from us to actually work out what that story is) and therefore has an interesting and gripping 'narrative feel' even if you have no clue what it's about. There's not just violin here... no. Pallett has gone full-throttle on the instrumentation this time and it's wonderful.
This is one of the first good albums of 2010, another being Laura Veirs' gorgeous and also-out-now July Flame. To find out if these albums are not just good, but great, join us again at the end of the year when they may or may not make it onto our albums of the year list.
