Oh dear...

We like Florence and her Machine an awful lot, enough to have made her single "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" our song of 2009. But with every passing week now, she seems to be losing a little bit of her magic. First there was the revelation that Florence hadn't actually written one of the songs on her album ("Girl With One Eye"). Fair enough, we thought. Every supposedly genius 'kooky' (barf) singer-songwriter is allowed one or two covers on their debut album as long as their original material stands up to them. Then there was the news that Florence's plans to release "Hurricane Drunk" as a single had been scrapped so she could cash in on the fact that "Dog Days Are Over" had been played in a UK TV advert and hurtled a fair bit up the chart. Then the news that Florence had pilfered a line word-for-word directly from a New York band Gang Gang Dance's song for "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)". Now this boring and silly video.

When most of the other new artists who released albums around the same time are moving onto second albums, Florence (or her record label) seem to be trying to squeeze every single penny they can out of an already-successful campaign for an admirable but still flawed debut album. We'd rather she confirmed her talents with new material (or perhaps proved the first album might have been a fluke, who knows) but either way - this sort of needless stretching out of an album 'era' gets right on our tits and we want it done with, now.
