One of those 'is it just us' posts...

Sky Ferreira is a braces-wearing, Lolita-style professional hipster and is 'famous' for doing things like being in an Uffie video and featuring on a remix of a song by The Virgins that somehow garnered a lot of myspace/blog attention despite being, as far as we can remember, totally forgettable (ha!). Anyway, as with most girls whose major skills in life seem to consist of being pretty, thin and looking older than her years, Sky has a record deal and will probably be responsible for one minor European hit before becoming a designer, or an actor, or a model, or a fashion muse or a poetess or a socialite or etc. etc. etc. The above song, "One", is supposedly her debut single, although, by our count, it's her second because she had that other song that wasn't particularly memorable and didn't seem to catch on.

This one is good. It's got some really audaciously trippy synth production but is completely hindered by Ferreira's lacklustre and bland vocals - you know, one of those pop songs carried by the producer, not the artist. We wonder how it'll pan out, but we guess we'll have to 'wait and see' as with all things in life (Don't take this where I think you're taking this, no one wants to read your existentialist rants - Ed).

Another almost identical-looking hipster-kid is the British Daisy Dares You, who is one step ahead of Sky in that she already has a UK top 15 'hit' under her belt and seems to understand the importance of a chorus. Her previous single (that aforementioned hit) "Number One Enemy" was one of our early-2010 'guilty pleasures' (*insert bit about not believing in pleasures of the guilty variety here*) and felt at least partially promising. Daisy's next single, "Rosie", has that weird inferior-second-single feel when an artist with one fairly incredible song bizarrely scuppers their chances for prolonged success by releasing something borderline-terrible when they should be pulling out the BIG GUNS. You can watch it below and if you're not put in mind of early Busted/a vocodered warbling baby shrew then you must be deaf.

We fully reserve the right to be completely wrong about these two artists and would like to categorically state that we're sure they are both very lovely and talented young ladies, but what can we say, the world of amateur pop blogging is a cutthroat place, and blah blah blah.
