Kerli is an Estonian popstar whose first album campaign, despite going totally under the radar, managed to get her a huge army of teenage internet fans and a US record deal. We imagine her label thought they'd discovered a Lady GaGa-style visionary superstar, and, in fact, Kerli, who has come under criticism for 'copying' the aforementioned Germanotta, has hit back, providing proof that she dyed her hair yellow first (etc.).
Anyway that's about all we know re: Kerli. We imagine her label are giving her a big push, hoping to secure her a position as a worldwide star. We don't think this will be the song to do it, catchy and hooky as it is. It's produced by Free School (who did some stellar work with Kelis on her last album) and as such is nice and blippy/drummy, but it's not a megahit.
Our biggest problem with the above video, which otherwise is fairly diverting (elf-swing set-up and all) is the lack of dance, choreographed or otherwise. A rhythmic, upbeat pop song like that really needs a stunning routine to lift it - it feels a little lacklustre otherwise.
