Guilty Pleasure of the Year

Late entry, but this kills, slays and maims the other potential winners of this much-lauded accolade. Basically, we don't really believe in guilty pleasures at S&N. If we were really feeling that guilty about liking this, we wouldn't admit our love on the internet, so. We ain't ashamed. Basically apparently Avril Lavigne 'wrote' this (yeah right... although you never know) and Max Martin produced it, and it's now fallen into the hands of The Annoying One from School of Rock. If you're of a certain age, you might know her as the star of iCarly, but we don't watch Nickelodeon any more so, we know her as The Annoying One from School of Rock.

Despite only really being released in the US of A, her first album did pretty well there charting at 8 and selling 150k copies (supposedly). She sort of had a very minor hit single, too, called "Kissing U" but her cover of the Smellybabes' (feeling mature today) song "About You Now" actually charted higher (!!!). Anyway, if this isn't a massive top ten smash for her, she's pretty much basically screwed because the song is incredible and if you can't hear it you're a snob and you're pretending.

But just how good is this 'guilty' pleasure? Let's measure it against some others:
  • Is it as good as Smiley Cyrus' "See You Again": BETTER
  • Is it as good as Avril Lavigne's "Hot": NOTHING IS
  • Is it as good as anything on either of The Veronicas' first two albums: ALMOST
  • Is it as good as Anastacia's self-titled album: ONLY TIME WILL TELL
  • Is it as good as anything Rehab Lovato or Selena Gomez have ever released: ABOUT A MILLION TIMES MORE BRILLIANT
So there you go, it's pretty banging. Yeah, we know, the lyrics don't quite make sense and there's something a tiny bit Ke$£€ha about certain chorusy segments, but it basically does the job extremely well. Expect to see us twirling down the streets of London and/or Manchester to this in the near future (or until we wake up from the nightmare, realise this is hideous and decide to publically punish ourselves by listening to Björk's "Holographic Entrypoint" a million times in a row).
