Dead

The single's out, and we're not sure whether to be more excited with how it sounds or how the artwork looks. Let's get the shallow stuff out of the way first - she looks like she's been rooting around drains and plugholes for as many discarded pubes as possible, dip-dyed it in Nicola Roberts burnt orange and plonked it on 'er 'ead. In other words, INCREDIBLE. No seriously, if the album cover looks anything like this we'll be ecstatic.

Moving on... "Crystalline" is your typical Björk lead single grower. We presume it makes heavy use of the mutant instrument she fashioned by ripping the arse off a celeste and hooking it up to an iPad (elitist hipster bitch). The bells are mesmerising, and while we haven't quite worked out the message behind the lyrics yet we're just grateful we can make out individual words. Her voice, as ever, makes us swoon and go weak at the knees, yet the most intriguing section seems to be the final thirty seconds or so when the almost quaint pattern of vocals and celeste make way for an enormous mess of drum and bass - we love. We'd like to say "it's a return to her roots" but 1) it fucks us off when people say that cos it sounds corny and most of the time it's bullshit and lazy, and 2) it's not actually because while her first album was gratituitous in its manipulation of house and dance motifs she's not actually touched drum and bass before. Not so much a leap forward but definitely something new.

Like we said, it's gonna grow on us. But more importantly, we already love it.

TWO SLEEPS TO GO!
