While we're on the topic of the xx, we're happy to bring you a wonderful cover, albeit not too far from the original, of "Night Time" by Tracey Thorn. Yes, that Tracey Thorn, off of voice like set honey swirled in hot porridge and the spiritual/genuinely biological mother of Romy xx. Apparently produced by her one-time band member/full-time husband Ben something or other, which kind of makes this a return for Everything But The Girl, it's a heady mix of hypnotising vocals and a fuller, if you will, backing track than the xx original. Not that there is anything at all wrong with their own brand of sparseness, it's what makes them, but it's interesting to hear a cover with more life. This was intended to be on a compilation curated by the xx of covers of their own stuff (they've only done one album, arrogant shits) while never came to fruition, sadly. But we're glad this saw the light of day. More Tracey & xx collabs, she needs to work with her daughter more!
