UNLUCKY 13, or, Songs that have peaked at 13 on the official UK Singles Chart in 2009 that really, all things considered, should've charted higher...

  • "Hearbreak (Make Me A Dancer)" - Freemasons with Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Where should this have charted? Probably at about '8', and it would have done if it weren't for the death of Michael Jackson, King of Pop. Unfortunately for SEB and the Masons of Free, this will now be considered a 'flop', whereas if it weren't for the tragedy of our dearly beloved MJ, this would be a 'hit'. This may or may not have bearings on the rest of SEB's career, we'll just have to wait and see.
  • "Circus" - Britney Spears
Where should this have charted? At about '3', although considering "Womanizer" only peaked at '3' and should have gone number 1, maybe '7' would have been acceptable. So why did this stall at 13? Well it didn't sell badly, the sales were just spread out over a long period of time, so by its release almost everyone had already bought it, leading to a lack in sales surge. This will have absolutely no affect on the world of pop or Spears whatsoever, though. Britney could chart outside the top 100 (and she has many times in America) and people still wouldn't consider it a flop.
  • "New in Town" - Little Boots
Where should this have charted? Number '1'. We could write an essay on why Little Boots hasn't taken off the way people thought she should, and you know what? We may do just that, when we have the energy and the inclination. In the meantime you'll just have to make do with the fact that the video was horrible and themeless and Lady GaGa could have taken this to number 1 worldwide. If we'd been in charge of the Boots campaign things would have been done very differently. We still think Little Boots has a great career ahead of her, but like we've said before we think it'll be more 'Cathy Dennis' than 'Kylie Minogue'.
