A nuntacular Florence '+ the' Machine video...

It gets worse, doesn't it? You decide you think someone is shit, they surprise you with one of the best singles, albums and videos of the year, and then they just keep on impressing you. Every commendable thing they do, just makes you hate yourself more for having been wrong in the first place. You start to question your sanity and judgement. You teeter on the brink of nervous breakdown. If you'd only trusted those blasted tastemakers and record industry 'experts', who, actually having contacts in the music world, were sent demos you'd never heard, you might've had a fuller picture, you might've known...

But you didn't. Anyway, all cunting raving aside, Florence's new nun(ish)-themed video for "Drumming Song" (or "Bumming Song" if you're that way inclined) is RIDICULOUSLY REFRESHING. It's like a cold can of Diet Coke, it's that refreshing. It's like a mango crushed ice smoothie with a tot of vodka for good measure. It's like a parasol in the Sahara desert. It's like a blessed fork, when you're surrounded by spoons, or something. It so effortlessly wipes the floor with the previous three music videos we've posted on this blog (for Sugababes' "Get Sexy", Eva Simons' "Silly Boy" and Jade Ewen's "My Man") that it's almost comical! We say ALMOST comical.

We'd be quite happy if we never saw or heard another synth, discoball, laser, fluorescent light, 80s-inspired 'directional' haircut, vintage car, broken mirror, 'concept' outfit, futuristic headdress or 'anthemic' chorus ever again. If all videos from now until the end of the year had their 'fashion-forward' or 'trend-setting' aspects replaced by impromptu interprative dance, nun-hands in church, badly-combed ginger mops and pseudo-Medieval melodies and production we'd be very happy.

VERY, happy.
