First massive pleasant surprise of 2010?

We cannot believe we are typing these very words but: Gabriella Cilmi's new song/video is fantastic.

There. It's out. We are still baffled, so God know's what you are thinking. Anyway, the first important thing to do if your jaw is on the floor and you're thinking of deleting us from your bookmarks (amazing if you have Shiny and New in your bookmarks) is to press that "Play" button up above and see for yourself. This is a million miles away from "Sweet About Me" territory, a song admittedly not awful but majorly, majorly suffering from Good Song Absolutely Ruined Beyond Repair By Overplaying Syndrome; this is an energetic, powerful, entrancing 80s power ballad/soft glam rock/Hi-NRG mess of a masterpiece. As for the video... well, that's about as un-Gabriella Cilmi as we would have expected but that can only be a good thing. Highly enjoyable, motivating - this wouldn't be half bad in the gym. Speaking of which, we should get moving...

Anyway, watch the video with an open mind. If you already happened to be a Gabriella Cilmi fan, well... well done. You probably won't like the new song though.

PS Her Christmas 2008 song which featured quite heavily in the Co-op adverts was actually quite good too. PPS It was a cover :(
