Katie Melua still stuck inside a bargain basement version of Madonna's 'Ray of Light' campaign...
This sort of pop re-appropriation of pseudo-'Eastern' imagery as visual metaphor for personal enlightenment was being touted by Madonna and Björk in 1998, so it feels less than fresh in 2010. Katie Melua's Julie Andrews-impersonator vocals are also still far too polite for the sort of epic orchestral feel she's aiming for (let loose, gurrrl). But this Katie Melua is still a million times better than the other one. You know, the one obsessed with counting bicycles.
