We've read a lot of negative stuff surrounding the release of this song, above: "Waterfall" by Rosanna. What we think has happened is that, Popjustice, everybody's favourite music blog in the whole world, has started its own boutique record label, and against all the odds, despite PJ's popularity, despite its universal critical acclaim, despite its standing as the funniest and most compulsively readable pop blog on the net, there has been a backlash.
Why has there been a backlash? We have no idea. Perhaps most of the people who read PJ are aspiring musicians and are bitter that they haven't been signed/snapped up!? Perhaps it's an idea they've been behind for a long time, and now that it has come to fruition they're disappointed with the low-key and lacklustre way it seems to be unfurling? Perhaps most of the people who read PJ head there for hilarious and unbiased critique of pop, and no matter how much Peter Robinson protests that it won't meddle with journalistic integrity (and it hasn't, by the way) it can't help but feel like a conflict of interests?
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.
Anyway as frustrating as it is that Popjustice Hi-Fi (for it is them) seem to have a very limited budget, that's just the way it is. Yes we would have liked an actual music video for this. Yes it would have been nice to see a bit more of Rosanna (we're unsure of what she looks like) to help build an identity for her (very important in pop, naysayers be damned). Yes it's annoying that there seems to have been almost no radio airplay for this, and no hipster bloggy hype (which, to be honest, seems to power the music industry these days).
But whatever, all we know is that the song above is v. v. good and that we enjoy it v. v. much and even if the bits of stuff surrounding its release aren't at all satisfying, we will always have the music etc. And the music's good.
EDIT:
We take some of what we said back, because, lo and behold, here is a video. It's pretty and everything and you get to see Rosanna's face. We should research harderer and betterer next time but we don't because there's no money in this and it's all about the pashun.
