Hot Right Now - 06/03/11

We're trying something new for our Hot Right Now feature. Basically, whereas before, the chart was compiled using cumulative plays for tracks added to iTunes in the past 4 weeks and released during the current year; now, the chart is compiled using last.fm's most played of the past 7 weeks. The 'added to iTunes in the past 4 weeks' rule will still apply, but there you go. We have to have some boundaries. We realise that chart compiling usually isn't (and doesn't have to be) this transparent, but we like to be honest as well as shiny... and new. This new system will be trialled over the next month, after which we will either revert to the old system if we feel it's failed, or instate it permanently. The reason for this change is that, if the two founding fathers of this 'ere website were both really into an album one week, it would dominate the entire chart for the following month, making for little movement, little variety and boring, samey lists.

We hope this remedies the problem somewhat. As always, feedback is welcomed, if not expected.
