We may have spoken too soon...

According to 'a source' (i.e. someone who actually got SENT a press release), Eva Simons may not just be the GaGa knock-off we had previously judged her to be. Apparently, she's not only an accomplished song (and jingle!)-writer, but she's also studied music theory (kudos!) and has 30 tracks up her sleeve for her debut album. Exciting. "Silly Boy" grew on us like a glittery boil, so any more tracks in a similar vein are welcomed with open arms/legs.

Commendable effort, love.

There was a hoo-ha a while back about this being the brand new Rihanna 'feat.' Lady GaGa single. It wasn't. Off-of the back of this LIE-fuelled hysteria, which may or may not have been intentional (we'll never know), Eva Simons, the REAL artist behind it, has been signed to a major, apparently international record deal.

It's a quite good 'package', but really, it takes more than some sparkly costumes, a ridiculous haircut and a jaggedly 'edgy' dance routine to be Lady GaGa. We're reserving judgement, because you never know, Eva Simons may be a piano-playing, fashion-designing, controversy-baiting pop innovator, but our gut instincts are telling us that this is just fairly clever cashing in... either way, it's a diverting 3 minutes or so. Or if you're more cynical, a disturbing look into the psyche of record labels who'll attempt to cash in on anything.

Lady RiRi vs. Lady GaGa

Apparently Rihanna's new single is called "Silly Boy" and it features none other than 'snood' (that's a sort of hood)-loving Lady GaGa. You can listen here. To be honest, we're not particularly sold on this one. It doesn't sound like either of the singers and we are PRAYING that if it's true, it's just a demo.

It sounds like there could be a hit hiding in there somewhere but it would need RiRi and GaGa's attitude and some reswizzed beats/riffs to lift it from 'dodgy demo' to 'hot hit' (fucking hell that was like Closer magazine writing).

(Update: It's actually by one Eva Simons... - Ed)
